Expo 2020 Dubai has been grabbing global attention with the confluence of technology, art, science, culture, and innovation. Due to the unexpected onset of the Covid 19 pandemic, Expo 2020 was delayed and rescheduled for October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2021.
The first-ever venue of global Expo 2020 in the Middle East, Dubai has opened up pavilions focused on bringing more than 25 million visitors to the site.
With its proximity to Al Maktoum International Airport, Expo 2020 Dubai is held in Dubai South District. With numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses worldwide, the event shakes hands with innovation to fuel global economic growth.
Now, let’s discuss the story of the Expo 2020 Dubai logo and its historic significance in detail.
History of Expo 2020 Dubai Logo
New Expo 2020 logo was chosen for Dubai, after conducting a competition to design an official logo for it last year, which attracted over 19,000 participants.
The logo of Expo 2020 Dubai is inspired by a 4000-year-old ring, which dates back to the Iron age. This golden ring was found in 2002, at the site of Saruq Al Hadid located in Al Marmoom.
The Vice President and Honourable Prime Minister of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has found this archaeological site when he flew over this area and discovered the uneven ripples over the sand dunes.
This was the inspiration behind revealing the logo during the grand ceremony held in March 2016, at the Armani Hotel situated at Burj Khalifa. Now, the ring is showcased at the famous Saruq Al-Hadid Museum of Dubai.
The site was known to be an ancient Copper manufacturing center. This particular site is popular for its richness in metal ores. It is now owned and controlled by the Architectural Heritage Department of Dubai Municipality.
The site was once enclosed with a dune of about 7-metres depth. The mound is concealed by the ever-shifting desert sands even though it extends to an overall area of about 15,000 square meters. Thereby, it is difficult to explain how this ancient settlement had formed there.
What Expo 2020 Dubai Logo Means
According to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, the people who lived over 4000 years ago in this land cultivated a spirit of creativity and the people today are building the future of a nation beholding the centuries yet to come.
He also stated that the archaeological site is a land that connects ancient civilizations and will continue to prevail as a hub that is connecting the world.
The theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is also in deep connection with this ideology, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future“. Expo 2020 Dubai visualizes a true and vivid vision of the future and pays tribute to the past of the nation.
As mentioned, there was a competition held to find the official Expo 2020 Dubai logo, in the year 2015. There were three finalists for the best logo, who was Mohamed Souheil Bin Ali, a graphic designer, and an Architect, Mouza Al Mansouri who is a communications professional, and Valeri IInitki, who is a computer graphics artist.
The finalists were awarded the night when the logo of Expo 2020 Dubai was unveiled by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed. Even though the official emblem was the ring, plans have been made to feature the shortlisted logo designs at the Expo venue. The ring has been visualized as a symbol that visualizes the blend of connectivity, resilience, and heritage. You can also get the Expo 2020 Dubai logo on your cars in Dubai. With pavilions for more than 190 participating countries, Expo 2020 Dubai has set its voyage for a six-month-long exhibition.
